Discover 6000 years of civilisation, on the doorstep of the Cross Keys, Chatteris

Art, Culture, History & Music

Cross Keys Hotel is your ideal base from which to discover over 6000 years of Fenland heritage. Cathedrals and churches of great importance, reside alongside buildings of architectural splendour. Museums outlining cultural achievements, nestle in villages and towns richly resplendent of their forebears character. All of which is within a 45 minutes radius.

Indeed, Cross Keys Hotel is rich in it’s own history. Built around 1540 in the reign of Elizabeth I, it still retains many of the features of that era including three Open Hearth Fireplaces. During the winter months, a real log fire crackles to welcome the traveller. The locals gather to educate newcomers with yarns of olde, over a pint, or two.

Art & Antiques are plentiful in the region. With auction houses and galleries dotted about the Fens and many craft fares throughout the year.

Music is another important element of Fen culture for which there are many events. The Parish Church of St. Peter & St. Paul, opposite the Keys, hold frequent music evenings. These gatherings feature classical, operatic and choral works. Musicians and audience convene to our Lounge Bar to discuss the merits of a performance over sandwiches and a tipple.

We have a large selection of leaflets and 30 years worth of knowledge of the area to assist you with your interests.
